Typeloops

A two-day durational performance by Alexander Stubbs and The Aimless Archive using a single loop of paper between two typewriters – collecting words and marks that responded to the space at Electro Studios Project Space and the other works at Present Voices.

TYPELOOPS was set up on the 30 metre landing that runs the length of the studio building and project space. Visitors could access the paper loop from each side – but were blocked at the halfway point. They were also encouraged to ask questions and have a conversation with the performers while they typed. The writing commented on other performances and work on display at Present Voices – as well as the nature of performance and collaboration.

For this iteration Jay Moy created a series of documentation performances. Microphones were attached to the typewriters, the paper loop, and the space. Two cassette players created a one minute delay and sound-on-sound signal loop, with live digital processing via software on an iPad. The output was then played back into the space.

Unreserved thanks to Ruby Antonowicz-Behnan and Yui Yamamoto for the invitation to join Present Voices, the other performers, and everyone who made such generous comments and observations.
